| The Latest from Ardent Dev | MORE | | The Shameful Legacy of 20th Century Software But there are trends afoot: the closed ecosystem of the iPhone and the iPad, the coming Windows Phone 7 closed ecosystem, and the increasing ubiquity of Internet applications. Last week I got to spend an evening reinstalling my wife’s laptop because she picked up some malware. She received an email from a friend with a link to a YouTube video that prompted her to install a new codec. Except the codec wasn’t really a codec. The link wasn’t really to YouTube. The email wasn’t really from her friend. And it’s not fair. Ardent Dev - Wednesday, March 17, 2010 Survival Skills for Developers If you only know how to build Windows or web applications, you are severely limiting your ability to efficiently handle the many small tasks that often accompanying development work like parsing a file or deploying software updates. If you work in Windows, learn to use the command line along with some basic VBScript and batch (.bat) If you’re a Windows developer, learn how to build a Windows Service and how to run programs with the Task Scheduler. Let’s suspend reality for a moment and pretend you’re heading out into the woods this weekend. Outcode. The Error Message. enabled Failed Request Tracing in IIS7 to find out what was happening server-side to cause the HTTP 500 error. Some Sanity Checking. So why the difference? Ardent Dev - Wednesday, July 15, 2009 | - The Loathsome Ritual of Predictions for 2009
Windows 7 beta releases will show tremendous promise and will begin to restore faith in Microsoft’s ability to ship a great desktop OS experience. Microsoft will demonstrate serious support for low power netbooks in Windows 7 betas. Oh how I love and loathe the yearly cycle of predictions… Hard drives will get bigger! Processors will get faster and gain more cores! Web pages will get heavier! Billy Hollis will reiterate his doctrine of smart client superiority! Vertigo Software will release some new app that will make everyone feel inadequate! Ardent Dev - Wednesday, January 7, 2009 - SourceForge Top 25 Favours Windows
This is interesting though not totally surprising: [O]pen source software is not only available but also more popular on Windows. Note that of the top 25, there were 16 projects available only for Windows and none that were available only for Linux. have rarely looked for something on SourceForge that wasn’t available for Windows. link]. This definitely matches my anecdotal experience. Ardent Dev - Wednesday, February 18, 2009 - The Loathsome Ritual of Predictions for 2009

Kennedy's Weblog - Monday, April 22, 2013 The Architecture of WCF Over the lifetime of Windows there have been many technologies to achieve this: sockets, DCOM, MSMQ,NET Remoting, ASMX Web Services and more. You can either create the ServiceHost instance yourself and call Open on it (known as self hosting) or you can get the Windows Process Activation Service to do this (formally known as WAS hosting). | The Best from DevelopMentor | MORE | - Using Windows 7 Search to delete ‘obj’ folders
One easy way is to use Windows 7 Search to look for all the ‘obj’ folders and just delete them manually. For a complete overview of the Windows 7 Search syntax go to: [link]. Tags: Windows 7 Visual Studio will create ‘obj’ folders within your solution to store a bunch of temporary files. You can remove these files in a number of ways. I have been an avid user of Mesh and was so pleased with the beta that I was hesitant to switch to Windows Live Sync 2011 beta. You may want to check with you IT guy to see how he feels about the security risks, but for me this works really well (I do make sure that my Windows Live, Facebook and Google passwords are all different!). Tags: Windows Live But since the Mesh page started saying that the service is to be replaced I figured I ‘d better get my machines switched over. For those who don’t know: Live Sync allows you to synchronize folders between devices. The Blomsma Code - Sunday, September 12, 2010 - Just took a walk around Fenway – using Bing Maps
