Allan Kelly's Blog - Monday, August 30, 2010 Two of the technical presentations at ACCU - and the A, B, and C of speakers dll’s in Windows,so’s on Unix, dynamic linking, static linking, memory models, etc. He is truly an expert on this subject: Windows, Unix(s), Macs, object models, you name it he knows it. The ACCU is a technical organization - people join because it has a technical focus. But actually the secret of the ACCU is that it is really about developing people. We help those technical people develop their technical skills - but on the quiet we help them develop their less technical skills, we challenge them to think about less technical issues. And then we have the ‘C’ list. Froyo) JP Morgan was fined £33m for failing to protect client money Greek debt was downgraded to junk in April Barclays were fixing Libor Go back a little further: Windows 7 was release in October 2009. I’ve discussed Agile contract models before and I’ve agued against points based contracts (‘Points based contracts? Using commitment to stretch the team goes out the window. The fixed length iteration is a key part of most Agile methods. But the question is: how do you know what (i.e. how much) to put in the iteration? There are two ways to determine how much is enough but what might be less obvious is that they are alternatives. It is easy to outline both and pretend they work together but really they don’t fit together. The first way, lets call it the Scrum way, is to set a Goal. The team then commit to making this Goal. The team then go for it. And changing mindset on both sides is a big task. Allan Kelly's Blog - Sunday, June 13, 2010 - Architects who aren't
It was on Windows NT with Sybase (yes, thats how long ago it was) in C and C++ with a little Visual Basic. Having cleared up some preliminaries, i.e. What is architecture? we are getting closer to the big question: what do architects do? But I’ll continuing to take this piecemeal. In this blog entry I’d like to dismiss too groups of people who carry the Architect title but are not Architects. The first group are “Architects by Seniority.” Some years ago I held a post with the title “Senior Software Engineer.” Or as I used to joke “anyone over 30.” Anyone out their know? Allan Kelly's Blog - Thursday, February 18, 2010 - What’s the story behind the story?
Some of the more traditional local stores have also started to up their act, install bigger windows, use brighter colours.) I read in yesterday’s Financial Times (21 May 2005, London edition) that convenience grocery stores are growing their sales faster than overall grocery market, 5% growth as opposed to 4.2% growth for the whole market. The piece also mentions that over the whole year convenience stores are expected to grow 25% more than supermarkets. Full story here , subscription required.) What I wonder are the forces behind this growth? read (the FT again?) or heard (BBC radio 4?) Allan Kelly's Blog - Sunday, May 22, 2005 - Pricing on the internet and destroying your brand
We all know this, no stores to rent, no shop windows to make up, no sales staff - and customers pay for delivery. Things are cheaper on the internet right? Well it seems not. According to a report in today's FT Sony has lead a group of electronics firms (including Philips, Panasonic, Hitachi and Sharp) who have been charging internet retailers more for goods then high street retailers. Their rational is that high street firms help build “the brand proposition and purchasing experience.” Purchasing experience? Have any of these people ever shopped at the likes of Dixon's or Currys? Allan Kelly's Blog - Wednesday, November 16, 2005 - PDAs, the future of Palm? – and my Palm LifeDrive
So Psion spun out Symbian, Palm created PalmSource and HP, Dell and everyone else started using Microsoft Windows CE/Pocket/whatever. I’ve been using PDAs for about 12 years now, I started on a Psion 3a, then a 3c, then I moved to a Series 5, didn’t like that and moved back to a 3mx and finished on a Revo. As you can tell I love the things, the 3mx is still my favorite PDA but it was obvious at the time that it needed to move forward. The Revo should have been that move but it had two flaws: a poor case design and persistent battery problems. In the end Psion got out of the market. Allan Kelly's Blog - Sunday, August 6, 2006 - Progress on Open Source CMS
Good news: I installed Joomla CMS this week – its a spin-off from Mambo – on WAMP (Windows, Apache, MySQL and PHP). The install was actually quite painless, apart from a few problems getting PHP to work on Windows with Apache everything went well. Picking up my discussions about Content Management Systems… two things stand out: first “content management” is a broad topic and needs sub-dividing, second there seem to be thousands, if not millions of Open Source CMS systems out there. Well, good news, bad news, good news. Allan Kelly's Blog - Friday, September 29, 2006 %>

Kennedy's Weblog - Monday, April 22, 2013 The Architecture of WCF Over the lifetime of Windows there have been many technologies to achieve this: sockets, DCOM, MSMQ,NET Remoting, ASMX Web Services and more. You can either create the ServiceHost instance yourself and call Open on it (known as self hosting) or you can get the Windows Process Activation Service to do this (formally known as WAS hosting). 'Before WCF it was, of course, possible for software running on different machines to communicate. The problem is all of these have different APIs and different levels of capability. Messages. | The Best from DevelopMentor | MORE | - Using Windows 7 Search to delete ‘obj’ folders
One easy way is to use Windows 7 Search to look for all the ‘obj’ folders and just delete them manually. For a complete overview of the Windows 7 Search syntax go to: [link]. Tags: Windows 7 Visual Studio will create ‘obj’ folders within your solution to store a bunch of temporary files. You can remove these files in a number of ways. To do this I use the ‘kind’ keyword in the query box. Tip: Just typing ‘kind:’ will give you a list of choices to choose from. I have been an avid user of Mesh and was so pleased with the beta that I was hesitant to switch to Windows Live Sync 2011 beta. You may want to check with you IT guy to see how he feels about the security risks, but for me this works really well (I do make sure that my Windows Live, Facebook and Google passwords are all different!). Tags: Windows Live But since the Mesh page started saying that the service is to be replaced I figured I ‘d better get my machines switched over. For those who don’t know: Live Sync allows you to synchronize folders between devices. The Blomsma Code - Sunday, September 12, 2010 - Just took a walk around Fenway – using Bing Maps
