  • Allan Kelly: Introducing the Agile Basics video series
'In the last year I’ve had a lot of people ask whether I do online training, and I’ve had several of the partner organizations I work with suggest I should do more video training courses. Doubts because so much of what I do is interactive, exercises, following questions and I don’t know how to translate that into pre-recorded videos or other online material. don’t know how to approach videos, how much work is required? Back in April I posted a “Xanpan Board Tour” video. So I can now announce the results of my summer project: The Agile Basics video series.

  • Allan Kelly: Agile Contracts - a video mini-series
Now as some readers will be aware, this year I have been experimenting with video recordings as alternatives to the written word. m still learning here but after chatting with director Brian Barnes (OK, the only director I know, but a) it sounds good to say that and b) he has a new independent film out soon which need plug, trailer on that link) I though I’d try my hand at video again. 'Over the years I’ve build up a bit of knowledge about commercial contracts in an Agile environment. Really my question is: should I try this format again

  • Testing Difficult Code
I recently did 3 videos in my ‘ Using ApprovalTests in.Net’ series that deal with how to test difficult code. These video actually have very little to do with either.Net or ApprovalTests, but they are common issues you run into when unit testing. Here’s the video: The Peel 2. Seams Testing difficult Code comes down to 2 things: Can I call the Method? Will the Method run to completion? And there are 2 techniques I use to deal with these, that individually are useful, but together are amazing. The idea behind the peel is to break the method up into easy to run pieces.

  • Brock Allen: OAuth2 in Thinktecture IdentityServer : OAuth2 identity providers
In his video Dominick mentions that only other WS-Federation identity providers are supported, but One of the new features in Thinktecture IdentityServer v2 is the support for federation with other identity providers. This means that IdentityServer can act as a federation gateway (sometimes called a R-STS or resource-STS) and Dominick shows off the feature here.

  • Agile 2012 Development Practices & Craftsmanship stage
Speaking skills : Help us to know what you are like as a speaker. Please include a link to a online video (preferably youtube) of you speaking at a user group or conference. This is the original description we made as the producers for the Agile 2012 Development Practices Stage. It didn't fit the needed format, so we couldn't use it, but it is what we have in our mind, and I thought it would be useful for speakers who are thinking of submitting to read. Demo heavy rather than slide heavy. Must-have "You can't possibly have a stage for dev practices and craftsmanship and not cover __ !"

  • What’s new in ApprovalTests.Net v.20?
To learn more about approving email messages, watch this video. Testing Email with ApprovalTests FileLauncher with DelayReporter There has been a great deal of demand to use Cassini-dev after Jim Counts demo’d it during his ASPConf video on testing ASP.MVC views. ASP routing support As community contributor, Krzysztof Ko?mic This can be particularly troublesome when changing an existing, unfamiliar piece of code. For example, it it easy to accidentally remove a button-click event. Unfortunately, many times you don’t want to say ‘What are the events associated with this button"?

  • Android and iOS Development with Simple MVVM Toolkit? Yes you can!
The view the videos, just sign up for a free 14 day trial using the promo code: SNEED-14. 'Note: This is Part 1 of a three part series. This post deals with iOS development. Part 2 will delve into Android development, and Part 3 will discuss how to create a Simple Mvvm Portable Library with code that can be shared across multiple UI platforms (both Microsoft and non-Microsoft). Like anything in life, it comes down to a matter of preference and personal taste. That is, until now. I’ll explore in depth how to use Simple MVVM Toolkit to create portable libraries in a future blog post.).

  • The #AngularJS $scope is not the MVC Model
Take a good look at this video from Miško Hevery starting at about 0:29. BTW the rest of this video is highly recommended as well. 'Index: Getting started with AngularJS Creating an AngularJS Controller The #AngularJS $scope is not the MVC Model In the previous post I showed how to create and use an MVC Controller in AngularJS to manage the logic of an application. In this post I showed how to use the $scope variable that is passed into the Controller to share data between the Controller and the View. Now that sounds awfully like a model but it isn’t. If you don’t have a “.”

  • #NoProjects becomes #BeyondProjects and online
The #BeyondProjects slides are now online at Slideshare and Skills Matter have published a video of the talk. 'On Monday night I delivered a talk at Skills Matter in London entitled “Beyond Projects: or the end of projects and what to do about it.” This was the latest evolution of the #NoProjects meme being advanced by Steve Smith, Joshua Arnold and myself. Steve, Joshua and I have been thinking that #NoProjects is a bit negative and something like #BeyondProjects would be more positive but we didn’t reach a final decision. Having read some of the Tweets after Monday I’ve decided.

  • #AOSW - Agile Outside of Software - starts here
Belinda also had a video made by Oxford Innovation about Agile in Cornwall : this started with the Cornish Software Mines Agile Programme that I was involved with four years ago. 'We had the Agile on the Beach conference a couple of weeks. In a word: Brilliant - just look at the photos and see how people enjoyed themselves. OK, I’m biased, I’m one of the organisers, but many people told me it was brilliant or they just didn’t want to hurt my feelings. There is much I could write about Agile on the Beach but I don’t have enough time. Her talk is available on YouTube. But we need more.

  • Testing Views in Asp.Mvc
created a short video tutorial, and Jim Counts put together a fabulous 3 part blog + Sample Code. Video : Blog : Part 1 – Getting Started Part 2 – Working with Data Part 3 – Tackling the Build Server Code: many years, the views (the html returned from an rendered MVC controller) were an extremely difficult thing to test. Like many unreachable things, they were declared “not worth it” and ignored. Until now, with ApprovalTests we have created a “simple” way to test the rendered output of a view.

  • Illusions of Grandeur and Agreement
There is an interesting video from Veritasium about this. I just finished watch Adam Savage presenting at maker faire. It’s a pretty great talk. Kinda. Here’s what I’m taking away: “Set deadlines for personal projects” But about 22 minutes in I become pretty dissatisfied, and I want to talk about why: I am agreeing with Adam about everything. Everything? Yep, It ALL makes sense. know it ALL already. Now do I believe that if I was to sit down and actually do something with Adam that everything would be great? No disagreement? Nothing to learn? Of course not. That’s a stupid idea.

  • Software Developmers: prototype of future knowledge workers?
Think about some of the tools your common knowledge worker uses during the typical day: E-mail: invented by Ray Tomlinson, a programmer Spreadsheets: invented by programmers Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston The Web: invented by programmer Tim Burners-Lee Wiki sites: invented by programmer Ward Cunningham Even if Twitter, FaceBook, Video conferencing, Voice over IP and countless other knowledge sharing and collaboration technologies were not invented by programmers I will bet good money on one common factor: software developers, programmers, had early, if not first access to these technologies.
