Product Management conference
Much to my surprise they believe there are about 90,000 to 110,000 Product Managers in the UK, which equates to one Product Manager for every nine developers. I first noticed this when I came across ChimSoft - Chimney Sweep Software - honest, as far as I can tell they are for real. Finally, perhaps the most surprising thing at the conference was the reaction to one session about Agile Software Development. On Tuesday I attended a mini-conference about Product Management. In fact, this conference billed itself as “The UK’s first conference on Product Management”

Christmas reading: Classic essays on software development
There are many, many books about software development. Arguments made by Conway explain much of what actually happens in software development. Conway suggests that organization that create systems (not specifically software systems) will create copies of their organizations. Lean Question and Answer
A student at Fullerton University in California e-mailed a lot of people on the Lean Software Development mailing list with some questions for his masters thesis. I’ve removed a few questions because I don’t think the question or answer are particularly interesting. 1. How would you define lean development? The strictest definition of Lean Development would be to say it is a methodology proposed by the Poppendiecks ( Lean Software Development )based on lean manufacturing and product development. Since I had a little time on my hands I wrote him some lengthy answers.

The final sustainable edge
When I started reading the book I thought one of the pillars of this was going to be the development of your employees. Given how much trouble software developers have actually implementing “loose coupling” (and the corresponding “high cohesion”) one wonders how much trouble business will have with it. Two reasons: first, the workers are more highly qualified; second, because this is a green-field site, and costs are lower, many of the “best practices” I’ve finished reading “The Only Sustainable Edge” by Johns Hagel and Seely Brown . At the risk of boring my readers with
