| | More NLog Goodness
This will give you the documentation, Visual Studio item templates for sample configuration files, schemas for XML intellisense in config files, extended layout renderers, and the config-driven installer utility. Then select properties for the linked file and set Copy to Output Directory to “Copy Always.”. This is a follow-up to my post on Using NLog with Dependency Injection. This time around, I thought I would call out a few more features of NLog which I found useful. Download the code for this blog post. ″ A common question is where to place the NLog config file. <!-- Tony and Zuzana's World - Monday, October 31, 2011
Validation with Simple MVVM Toolkit
This interface obsolesces IDataErrorInfo because it does everything that interface did but enables additional functionality : Multiple validation errors per property Entity-level validation Asynchronous server-side validation. In the ViewModelDetailBase class, which accepts a TModel type argument, supports validation with an IsValid property. It checks to see if the model implements INotifyDataErrorInfo and, if so, returns true if the HasErrors property is true. You might, for example, bind the IsEnabled property of a Save button to the IsValid property of the ViewModel. Tony and Zuzana's World - Sunday, July 10, 2011
Access Control Service v2: Registering Web Identities in your Applications [concepts]
Many people use the IsAuthenticated property on IIdentity to make security decisions in their applications (or deny user=”?” see here where I show how to use the Facebook API to fetch additional user properties). In the next post I will show some code and provide a download link for the complete sample. ACS v2 support two fundamental types of client identities– I like to call them “enterprise identities” (WS-*) and “web identities” (Google, LiveID, OpenId in general…). Trust relationships and authorization details have been negotiated out of band (often on paper). www.leastprivilege.com - Saturday, May 21, 2011

- Simple MVVM Toolkit Improvements: Documentation, Features, Sample Apps
I’ve released a new version of my Simple MVVM Toolkit for Silverlight that has improved documentation, a bunch of new features and additional sample applications. And many of those other toolkits are woefully lacking in the way of documentation and code samples. Sample applications with step-by-step instructions. AssociateProperties method to link view-model and model properties. have spent quite a bit of time fleshing out documentation for the toolkit, and the download includes several sample applications. Model and ViewModel base classes.

- Using Model – View – ViewModel with Silverlight
Even thought the UI technology used doesn't change the basic MVVM pattern there are some subtle differences, like not easily being able to use ICommand in Silverlight, so I decided to create a small Silverlight sample. The Model The Model I am using is very simple and has two read-write properties, FirstName and LastName, and a single read-only property, FullName. The FullName property represents some business rule on how a name should be formatted. know it is a bit of a lame business rule but it is just a sample. The View is data bound to a ViewModel.

- Flowcharts in Workflow 4 and the Switch activity
The one thing I don’t like is the FlowSwitch activity The problem with the FlowSwitch is that the activity takes an expression determining the branch to execute and each branch has a case property to determine which branch is executed. When I ran the sample I would only get Default printed to the console. Flowcharts are a nice addition to Windows Workflow Foundation 4. They allow for a lot of pretty complex behavior that is hard to do in a sequential workflow. In WF 3 we used to model these complex behaviors as state machine workflows. guess you get the picture. So far so good.

- More Workflow 4 Services and duplex communications
And the Send activity has the capability to set the callback address dynamically using the EndpointAddress property. Sample project SimpleDuplexDemo.zip. Yesterday I posted a long blog post explaining how to do duplex communications in a Workflow service. Also the callback address had to be passed by the client using CallbackContextMessageProperty and the workflow service had to use a callback correlation handle to connect the Receive activity with the Send activity used for the callback. So what is the problem with this? As it turns out it is! That is the service done. Enjoy!

- Simple MVVM Toolkit versus MVVM Light Toolkit
Presently MVVM Light requires a manual installation , but the download for Simple MVVM is an installer which gives you the assembly binaries, external libraries, samples and source code. Simple MVVM Toolkit, on the other hand, has Documentation that includes the following topics: Introduction , Features , Prerequisites , Download Contents , Installation , Samples , and a Programming Reference. That is why I have focused a great deal of my energy on building two categories of sample applications that are installed with the Simple MVVM Toolkit. Platforms. Support. Usability.

- Screencast: Real-World MVVM with WCF RIA Services
Entities are persisted to the Northwind sample database (using SQL Server 2008 Express) through an ADO.NET Entity Data Model. Use the mvvmprop code snippet to add properties to the ViewModel. Expose the ViewModel as a property on the ViewModelLocator class (which is already present in the Silverlight project). Use the mvvminjectedlocator code snippet to add the ViewModel property, which injects the service agent (real or mock) into the ViewModel using MEF. Using the mvvmcontext XML snippet , set the DataContext of the View to the ViewModel property of the locator.

- Climb Onboard on the MVVM Message Bus
Typically the MainPage View will contain a navigation Frame element with its Source property bound to a property on its ViewModel that is of type Uri. When the ViewModel sets this property, displays the desired page in the frame, usually with the assistance of a UriMapper. Each has a Command property that is bound to a NavigateCommand property on the ViewModel. All the Navigate command does is set the SelectedPage property to a Uri constructed using the name of the passed-in page name. There I advocated using events as a communication mechanism. Enjoy.
