| The Latest from Maurice de Bejeir | MORE | | Integrating the #WebAPI HttpClient and ApiController in a single test 'In the two previous blog posts I showed how to unit test and ASP.NET WebAPI controller and how to unit test the client side code depending on the HttpClient class. After all testing an ApiController by just calling the methods makes it perfectly possible to call them in such a way that would never be possible using a real HTTP request. So in order to complete out testing we should test the integration of the client and server parts using an integration test. However there we added a custom TestingDelegatingHandler to return a fake result message. The Problem Solver - Monday, May 27, 2013 Unit testing code depending on the ASP.NET WebApi HttpClient 'In a previous post I showed how to unit test an ASP.NET WebAPI Controller. In this case the client application contains the following class to load books from the REST WebAPI controller: 1: public class BooksClient. This class uses the HttpClient to request the data from the service and extracts the books from the body before returning them. If we want to test this class we need to pass in an HttpClient object. This HttpMessageHandler is used as the pipeline to send requests and we can completely replace this with our own implementation. 14: {. Maurice de Bejeir - Monday, May 20, 2013 | | The Best from Maurice de Bejeir | MORE | | How to get started with Knockout.js Once you get into doing more client side JavaScript code with business applications and REST services you are going to run into the question of how to construct the client side HTML required to show the data to the users. Using jQuery Assuming most people are going to be using jQuery on the client you might start with some jQuery code to generate HTML. And in all likelihood the actual HTML that needs to be generated will be quite a bit more complex. The next step people tend to take is using templates. click( function () {. $.getJSON( The Problem Solver - Monday, February 6, 2012 How to data bind to collections using Knockout.js I showed to to get started with the awesome Knockout.js In this post I am going to show how easy it is to load a collection of items from a REST service and data bind to the complete collection. To data bind to collections of data Knockout supports the foreach data binding. In the example below I am using an html to display a list of books. The has the data binding attribute so its contents are going to be repeated for each item in the collection being used, books in this case. and controlling updates using Knockout.js Title. The Problem Solver - Wednesday, February 15, 2012 jQuery UI and Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10 touch screens I recently did a blog post describing how to enable the jQuery UI drag effects. In this post I showed how to get the draggable effect to work on an iPad. What we need to do is take control of the action IE10 performs on touch. Setting its value to 'none' is all we need to do. This will suppress the default IE10 behavior and pass the gestures on to the jQuery event handler. You can toggle the support for touch events using the button to try both with and without support for touch. It turns out this is rather simple. The Problem Solver - Wednesday, October 24, 2012 | - Using the WCF Web API in an ASP.NET MVC application
Warning: This post is based on a prerelease version of the WCF Web API In my previous blog post I showed how to add to and use the new WCF Web API a console application using NuGet. Now that works but it is far more likely that you will want to be using IIS and host the REST service as part of a web application. So in this blog post I am going to show how to do the normal thing I Created an ASP.NET MVC 3 app to host the REST service. Just like in this post we can add a reference to the WCF Web API to our project. if (_repo != The Problem Solver - Monday, June 13, 2011 - Using Model – View – ViewModel with Silverlight
have found it extremely easy to use when developing very different applications and have used the design pattern recently in both ASP.NET, WPF and Silverlight applications. However easy as it might be is seems to confuse people as I have seen some terrible examples where people make a complete mess of things. Even thought the UI technology used doesn't change the basic MVVM pattern there are some subtle differences, like not easily being able to use ICommand in Silverlight, so I decided to create a small Silverlight sample. The View is data bound to a ViewModel. The Problem Solver - Tuesday, April 7, 2009 - Using WF4 bookmarks with IWorkflowInstanceExtension
Beta 2 In this previous blog post I showed how to create an asynchronous activity using the NativeActivity and CreateBookmark to pause a workflow execution. Neither the WorkflowInvoker not the WorkflowServiceHost contain a ResumeBookmark function so how do we resume a bookmark using either of those execution hosts? The trick is to use a IWorkflowInstanceExtension. But that also means they are not aware of the workflow runtime environment and can’t do much more that respond to calls from a workflow. This interface has just two methods. return null ; }. The Problem Solver - Wednesday, January 27, 2010 - Creating an #AngularJS Controller
'In the previous blog post I showed how to get started with a really minimal AngularJS application. So far we have only seen the View part as the HTML used was the view used to render the page to the user. It gathers the data (Model) together and tells the View to render the data to the user. It also responds to events to do things. As this is used with the new keyword to create an object I have capitalized the first letter as is the convention in JavaScript. For those not used to JavaScript the (+$scope.x) operator = "?" The Problem Solver - Wednesday, April 10, 2013 - WF4&WCF and message correlation
In the previous blog posts, here , here and here , I demonstrated how to use WCF from WF4. This same some more about sending multiple messages to the same workflow, AKA Workflow Correlation. One of the ugly parts of Windows Workflow Foundation 3 was the message correlation part when you used WCF to send multiple messages to the same workflow. When using WF3 you where forced to use one of the context bindings like BasicHttpContextBinding or WSHttpContextBinding. Note that I cam completely free to change the person object as long as I use the same Id. The Problem Solver - Wednesday, September 2, 2009 - More Workflow 4 Services and duplex communications
Yesterday I posted a long blog post explaining how to do duplex communications in a Workflow service. Its a long story but the most important points where that workflow services don’t support the same style duplex communication as WCF with the callback channel defined in the ServiceContract but rather something that is called durable duplex where the callback contract is independent and the client has to create a ServiceHost and act as a full-blown WCF service. Would it not be much simpler in this case to pass the callback address as a parameter to our initial service call? The Problem Solver - Tuesday, May 4, 2010 - Versioning long running Workflow Services in WF4
One of the problems with the current version of Windows Workflow Foundation is how to handle different versions of your workflows. With short running workflows this is no big deal, workflows do whatever they are supposed to do and finish, and you can deploy a newer updated version of your XAMLX files whenever you want. This is a bit of a problem because it would mean you would either have to wait until all workflows are finished before upgrading you workflow definition or you would have to abort all running instances, neither is an acceptable solution in most cases. | The Best from DevelopMentor | MORE | - How to improve a team's velocity?
By way of wrapping up my velocity mini-series ( Two ways to fill and iteration , Filling an iteration too well , and Velocity Targeting and Velocity Inflation ) I’m going to end with some advice on how to improve a team’s velocity. Over time these add up to big improvements. To use economic logic: this is about improving the supply-side. The supply-side argument (largely monetarist) suggests the way to solve unemployment is not to increase demand (Keynes style) but to loosen and liberalise the labour market. But back to software. So I ended up running Windows Cerificate Services which proved to be an easy to use, robust solution. just had to rebuild my Test CA (on Hyper-V) so I thought I'll document the important steps (for self-reference and whoever might be interested). They usually expire on the very day where you have to do an important demo. Now by default there is an entry pointing to the CA's Netbios name. better solution is to create a revocation list once, and store that at a publicly available location. Next you have to publish a CRL. Set it to e.g. five years. www.leastprivilege.com - Thursday, August 14, 2008 - How to get started with Knockout.js
