few companies have realized this dream - Google and Amazon come to mind as a couple of the rare exceptions who have accomplished this goal. Some reports have Google spending over $2.4 Today we have at least three highly reputable companies offering some kind of pay as you go cloud computing platform - Microsoft, Amazon, and Google. At the base level all access to Azure Storage uses pure REST APIs. Ultimately ADO.NET Data Services is also built on a RESTful API so this translates to the underlying HTTP REST calls. The Simple Web Token (SWT) is a new & simple token format that was created by Microsoft, Google and others. Since I had to do some ACS work recently, I crafted up a simple SWT integration for WCF based REST services (works in ASP.NET as well). See here for specs. The Azure platform App Fabric Access Control service e.g. uses this token type. Why yet another token type? The downsides are – it is not a widely adopted token format (current spec version is 0.9.5.1) and the lack of asymmetric signatures (e.g. X.509 based). Hopefully the talk will explain the rest of the synopsis. Go searching on Google for any of those things. I’m planning on going to SPA London session next week , Tom Gilb is giving a talk entitled “Does real Software Practice Advancement need yet another 'Manifesto'? He’s being quite provocative, look at this from the synopsis: "AGILE HAS DOOMED ITSELF - TO BECOME YET ANOTHER FAD: XP IS ALREADY DEAD. What is Seriously Wrong with Agile practices and interpretations - why AGILE, AS CURRENTLY PRACTICED, is PROJECT-failure-prone as a culture." I think Tom is both right and wrong. Allan Kelly's Blog - Thursday, August 27, 2009 - Article: Building a Twitter Application in.NET
We will build a.NET application that uses the Twitter API (a free service) alongside other cool technologies such as the WCF REST Starter Kit [ [link] ] and LINQ to fully leverage the Twitter experience. Remember that there was a time when Google was just a noun. To get access to these types of features and many other optimizations, you'll need to use the REST-based Twitter API. Great, we have this cool REST API based on loosely-typed GETs and POSTs. There is a much newer API on the verge of release from Microsoft: The REST Starter Kit [ [link] ]. Enjoy! %>
