A few weeks ago I was presenting at the BCS SIGIST conference - another outing for my popular Objective Agility presentation. Someone in the audience asked: “Where is the evidence that Agile works?” My response was in two parts. It is rarely a question aimed at a rational decision. Second I said: lets turn the question around, Where is the evidence for Waterfall? As I mentioned in my last entry about Business Patterns for Software Developers , the audience at BCS Edinburgh asked several good questions. One of these questions was: “It strikes me that many of these patterns are more broadly applicable and could be applied outside the software industry. This is true, if you look at the pattern Customer Co-Created Product you will see it is illustrated with a picture of a Boeing 777. And lets not forget that while Schwaber and Sutherland have become celebrities in the community there were five authors of the original “ Scrum: A Pattern Language for Hyperproductive Software Development ”, Beedle also co-authors one of the early Scrum books, Devos still works as a Scrum Trainer, while Sharon seems to Scrum’s Fifth Beatle - where are they now? The book does include “40 Hour Work week” which isn’t present in The Scrum Pattern Language, or Agile Project Management with SCRUM but I’ve heard Scrum advocates talk about sustainable pace.
