Article: Azure Storage
Prior to large-scale cloud computing efforts (circa 2005), most of us could only dream of such scalability and reliability. If you want some intensive, expert-lead training on Azure and associated.NET 4.0 I recently wrote an article for DevelopMentor's Developments newsletter entitled Azure Storage. Read it at the DevelopMentor website here: [link]. I've republished here for my readers. Enjoy! Developments: Azure Storage. by Michael Kennedy. Listen to this article as a podcast: Azure-Storage-Article-Kennedy.mp3 ]. Some reports have Google spending over $2.4 Enter Azure Storage.

Lean Solutions by Womack & Jones
This month's book has been Lean Solutions by Womack and Jones (2005), two of the original authors of The Machine That Changed the World (Womack, Jones & Roos, 1991). Did you know that training-shoes (sneakers) need to be ordered 5 months in advance? I've raced through my latest book, sign of a good book, an interesting read, and most of all, a sign of large print! In some ways, Lean Solutions is an update of the earlier book for the start of the 21st century. It updates the ideas with some good examples from outside Toyota. It all because the industry is not lean.

Obvious innovation and the Jackson Pollack example
He had an artist's training, and he had a track record of producing pictures. The same might not be true of your neighbour in the Art Gallery, who has no training or background in art. My recent entry on innovation attracted a few comments, some verbally to my face, and some online, were we can all see them. One online poster, ended his comment by saying "innovation is obvious, isn't it?" - I find very interesting idea itself. Certainly there is a tendency to regard a lot of innovation as non-obvious. would like to introduce something what I call the Jackson Pollack example.

Terminal 5 is Lean
now that’s real team building and training. wMy local airport is Heathrow. Fortunately I’m not so close that I hear the planes so its mostly upside benefit, on a good day I can leave my place, get the tube to the airport, check-in (or what passes for check-in in these days of online and self-service checking) and through security in under and hour – not bad. Anyway, I didn’t raise the subject of Heathrow to sing the praises of my house. For me there is something even more interesting about T5: the project is Lean. They also know their core-competence is running an airport.

Switzerland
Another question I can’t answer: how can the subsidise the train system so much when taxes are so low? No entries for a week – a bit of a gap by my own standards. ve been on holiday (vacation to US-English speakers). Went down to Switzerland for a week. We relaxed, we saw Zurich, met some friends, visited Lucerne for a few days (where I would recommend the Hotel Hofgarten ), did some lake swimming, walked up (half a mountain) and generally had an enjoyable time. Of course, Switzerland is expensive – I probably don’t need to tell you this – but its worth thinking about in more depth.
